KEY TEXT: ” And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell” (KJV, Mathew 5:29-30).

Social media are online platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Imo, 2go, Twitter, Yahoo mail, gmail, etc. The chief  objective in the minds of those who created the social media might have been to make business transactions between persons and groups easy, but I have looked at the social media closely and spiritually, and have found out that they are easy ways to commit sins and end up in hell if the user is not sensitive in the spirit!

For instance, look at the WhatsApp statuses provided by WhatsApp for people to use. Using them automatically makes you a liar in the sight of God, because, the people using them as their status on WhatsApp are not officially always engaged at what the statuses say, therefore, they automatically become liars. The WhatsApp status are: “Busy”,  “At school”, “At the movies”, ” Battery about to die”, “In a meeting”, ” At the gym”, “Sleeping”, etc. Please, to avoid sinning against God by picking and using one of these provided statuses,  write your own status. Write what is true, edifying, holy, and glorifying to God. Reader, check your WhatsApp status, is it a lie/a sinful statement, or truth/ a statement that gives God glory?

Similarly, another way people easily defile their souls is through the WhatsApp chats and calls, especially the video calls where they can see one another live. You must not reply to every chat if you want to remain pure and holy, neither should you pick any video call of questionable or unknown callers. There was a day a foreign number I didn’t register called me on WhatsApp video call. I hesitated to pick it, but thought it could be somebody who got my ministry number on Facebook and needed counseling. I  picked it. What I saw before i quickly put off the call was a naked man destroying his destiny. Be careful. If anybody among your WhatsApp friends/contacts comes up with any funny chats and calls, block him or her. It is not a sin. Look at our today’s devotional key text: The Bible says if your eyes (what you see) lead you to sin, pluck it out, rather than allowing yourself go to hell. Likewise your hand (what you do with the hands). The Bible says you should cut it off.

Another social medium where sins are publicly and secretly exhibited is on Facebook. Many people on Facebook are there to achieve satanic aims. Some are there to get a life partner. Some are there to dupe people financially. Some are there for sex chats with whomever cares. Some are there to connect to more sin partners for homosexuality, lesbianism, fornication, adultery, etc. Some are there for money rituals. Some display pictures that destroy the opposite sex. Some form sinful pages. Some defile themselves through the inbox chats. The worst is the lies on the statues and the immoral relationships. Youths still in the high institutions, or a  young boy or girl still in a secondary school would lie and say he or she is a doctor, an engineer, an importer, a car owner, a manager, etc. And many gullible opposite sex would be attracted by the lies and be damned. What about the lies of the age? What about the countries and  towns they say they live in? They aim some developed western countries and name them. Some youths that have not yet gotten admissions are “graduates” on Facebook. Some married men and women’s marital status on Facebook is “single”. Hmmm. Edit your Facebook status to the truth now that you are still alive. All online chats, posts, video calls, etc, will be judged by God. If what you post on Facebook is not 100% evangelism to get souls for God, you are working for Satan and you are on your way to hell. You must not be on Facebook. You can deactivate your Facebook account if you cannot use it to the glory of God rather than go to hell for the same Facebook.

In summary, it is not a sin to be on Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media as far as what you are doing their is holy and to the glory of God, otherwise, you need repentance. We are in the world, but not of the world. God admonishes us in Romans 12:1-2 not to follow the ways of the world when we are doing anything on earth, including social media interactions.

1.God, purify me of every contamination I got from the social media

2.God, forgive me for luring people into sins on the social media

3. God, block every social media account of mine that will lead me to hell.
