The Fighting Spirit That Conquers in all Circumstances.(Gen.26:1-6,12-25)

THE LIFELIFE.
By Chidiebere Dennis Owah.

THE FIGHTING SPIRIT THAT CONQUERS IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES:

And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.
And the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;
And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.
And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:
Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him.
And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.
And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.
And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
And Isaac’s servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.
And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the Lord hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
And he went up from thence to Beersheba.
And the Lord appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.
And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the Lord, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac’s servants digged a well.
(Genesis 26:1-6,12-25).

Looking at the majority of men and women around, one cannot but notice a major determining factor, as far as success in life generally is concerned, that is lacking amongst them. That is that of a fighting. The fighting spirit is the die-hard attitude that never gives up in spite of the challenges that it encounters in the process of pursuing its goal or objective.
This the attitude of bull-like doggedness that is unflagging and unflinching in the face of daunting oppositions.It is the must-win mentality that never considers going back when the going gets tough and tiring.A mindset of hanging on until victory is won. A will and faith to succeed that is stronger than the fear and mentality of failure.
That was what Isaac possessed, persevered with and was promoted for.
And, that is what we are looking at this day: THE FIGHTING SPIRIT THAT CONQUERS IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. There thing we are looking at, as always do. They are the following:
1.OUR POSSESSION OF THIS FIGHTING SPIRIT THAT CONQUERS IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES:
And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.
And the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
Sojourn in this land and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;
And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;(Gen. 26:1-4).
God understood that there was no way Isaac could have succeeded if he did not possess this fighting spirit.He(God) understood the dynamics of the game of life.That failure is so stubborn that it will take a much more ‘stubborn’ fellow to bring it to its knees.
That was why God gave Isaac that solemn charge of not miigrating to the northern part of Africa-Egypt.He told him to stay back and fight for his economic survival.That is what God is telling us as well.He is saying don’t allow circumstances to run you out of town, stay put and fight your battles. In whatever area you have to fight, fight and you will win in Jesus name.
2.OUR PERSEVERANCE WITH THE FIGHTING SPIRIT THAT CONQUERS IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES:
And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.
And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
And Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
And Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and found there a well of springing water.
And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
And they dug another well and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.
And he removed from thence, and dug another well, and for that, they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now, the Lord hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
(Gen. 26:16-22).

When we came to this aspect of this piece on perseverance; did you see the length of the account? That is where do many lazy people miss it.They run away before the night goes away. They give up before the rain stops.They pack up in the midst of the storm. They are mentally lazy. Psychologically indolent.
But,the people that conquer like Isaac will be men and women of unrelenting and unyielding passion and perseverance in the face of difficult challenges.Men and women of cast iron mental constitution that will smile at difficulties.Redouble their efforts when it appears the one they have made is not strong enough to win the day.They understood, like my late beloved grand father would tell us,that,it is always toughest before it becomes easy.Therefore,we need to persevere in other to have the victory.
3.OUR PROMOTION FOR OUR FIGHTING SPIRIT THAT CONQUERS IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES:
And he(Isaac) went up from thence to Beersheba.
Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.
And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?
And they said, We saw certainly that the Lord was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;
That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the Lord.
And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.
And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.
And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beersheba unto this day.
(Gen. 26:23-33).
The lesson from the life of Isaac in this passage of the Bible will not be complete if we did not mention it that this man of destiny was rewarded magnanimously by God and life generally due to his fighting spirit.
Life will always reward the man or woman who refused to give up on what he or she has started when it appears everything is suggesting the contrary.In fact,without sounding like a broken record,I want to state that difficulties are what life and nature and even God uses to sort the mature men from the feeding bottle boys.That is the process of natural elimination.I pray that you will survive it,dearly beloved, in Jesus name.
Now,as I conclude,did you notice the place of God in the whole of Isaac’s success equation.It was God at the beginning;God in the process;and of course,God at the consummation of the whole equation.
GOD WAS THE CONSTANT IN THE ENTIRE EQUATION.
He is the factor you cannot trifle with, if you wish to succeed.That is why,knowing fully well,that you desire and deserve success,I want to encourage you to give your life to God through sincere repentance and sustainable righteousness so that He will put that fighting spirit that conquers in all circumstances in you.May God help you to do that in Jesus name.Amen.
