1 John 5:4
For whatsoever is born of
God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
*He will teach us how to overcome.
*Because I am born of God, I ha e overcome the world.
**What is faith?
*The basic definition is you believe and you act on the Word of God.
*Faith is hearing, believing and acting on the Word of God.
**What is the world?
The world means the way the system of the world works.
*Because I am born of God, believe the Word of God,receive the Word of God, act on the Word of God, I can overcome the world.
*Jn.16:33- Because He overcame, we will overcome.
*The god of this word is the devil-2Corin.4:4
*The prince of this world – Jn.14:20, Eph.2:2;
Col.1:13-the power of darkness;
Eph.12: the world is full of children of disobedience
Gal.1:3-4 – tge world is full of evil.
C) What foes God want you to do with the world?
* 2Corin.6:17- God commands us to come out of ths world. You cannot serve God and the world at the same time.
Because the devil has no other game plan than the same plan he had in the Garden of Eden.
*If you do what Jesus did, you will be an overcomer.
*We are not ignorant of the devices of the devil.2 Corin.2:11.
* He operates in only three (3) ways:
The self works in three areas of our lives. If you are an overcomer in these three areas, you will be an overcomer.
*The three things tgat the devil uses to destroy the self are:
*1Jn.2:16- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.
James 4:4- If you love the world, yoh are an enemy of God.
We can overcome the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.
How do I do this?
* God created the Garden of Eden and put them there and instrucyed them to enjoy everything except from the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge and Evil.
Rm.10:17- Faith comes by hearing the world of God.
Just hearing the Word of God only does not make you an overcomer.
Our priblem is believing the Word of God.
1 The lust of flesh
Eve saw it and said it was good.
The lust of the flesh wants you to just do it, do it, do it!
Whatever your body wants, you just want it.
2 The lust of the eyes
The fruit is pleasant to her eyes.
3 The pride of life
It will make us wise.
It is nothing more than I, ME. It is always about ME!
Jesus says in Jn.16:33, I have overcome the world.
Heb.4:15- Jesus was tempted in every way like we are but did not sin.
D) How did Jesus overcome these temptations?
*Lk.3:22 – This is My Beloveth Son in whom I am well pleased.
*Jesus was full of the Holy Ghost.
*Just because you are filled with the Holy Ghost does not mean that the devil will leave you alone – Heb. 4:15.
* We are not ignorant of the devices of the devil.2 Corin.2:11.
The devil will always challenge the Word of God.
1 The lust of the flesh- It is written. You quote the Word of God with victorious faith.
2 The lust of the eyes – the devil keeps telling people: I WILL GIVE YOU MONEY, I WILL GIVE YOU HOUSE, etc.
Jesus was tempted too but He said “IT IS WRITTEN”. The same way you will overcome.
Then the devil brings up his biggest weapon called the PRIDE OF LIFE.
3. The pride of life – this destroyed the devil and he is always using it. Isa. 14:13-16.
*The pride of life is designed for one thing only: TO TAKE YOU OUT OF THE WILL OF GOD. This is meant to glorify you and you and you alone!
*Jesus defeated the devil by saying again “IT IS WRITTEN…” – Matt.4:10.
*Heb.4:15- Jesus was tempted in all points and He overcame. But the devil left Him foe a season.
E) In conclusion
Temptations come from these three
1 When temptations come just stop and consider the Word of God and resist the devil – Janes 4:7;
2 Study the Word of God – 2 Tim.2:15;
3 Eph.2:16- Di what Jesus did: use the two-edged sword to destroy the devil.
