Overcoming End-of-the – year Discouragement by Faith.

-Chidiebere Dennis Owah

I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. (Psalm 27:13, 14).

Friends,as the year is winding up,there is need for us to be proactive against the devil in the area of him he influences the thoughts of men and women.

Actually, the end of a year comes with the tendency of one getting discouraged over unfulfilled dreams and expectations.Think about it you may have set goals for yourself. Now,looking them unrealized at the end of the year like this leaves you with discouragement, disorientation and,may be depression. It saps you of all energy to to face the coming year. That was the position of David when he wrote those lines above. He was discouraged. But,he overcame by faith. We are going to overcome as well.

Now,let me tell you what discouragement can do.It can reduce a Giant that has won many wars to a lilliputantic coward who is now, unfortunately, afraid of his own harmless shadow. It can reduce a very creative mind to one that it is breft of ideas on how to handle exigencies. As a matter of fact, discouragement is one of the greatest enemies of success. And we have to fight it with all the mental strength we have. We are looking at 3 things, as usual. They are:

And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, so let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time. And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, it is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers. (1Kings 19:1-4).

What is my comment on the above text? Well, it is apt and simple. If Elijah could be discouraged, anybody can. In other words, discouragement is a universal problem. And it has fear and faithlessness as it harbingers. We need to watch and war against it.

I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. (Psalm 27:13, 14).

Faith, like I have stated on this platform, is a very powerful weapon of spiritual warfare. And, discouragement is one of the spiritual enemies that the believer has to fight with faith. David fought against it. Moses had victory over it. How about Elijah? He encountered it and was able to overcome it, the grace of the Almighty God. And, you know what, you are going to overcome it. Only be of good courage. Avoid discouragement.

And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God. (1Kings 19:5-8).

God is a progressive God. And, that He wants his children to know. He doesn’t take pleasure in failure and failings of His children. He is ever-ready to, in His supernatural powers and ability, give His sincere children the needed support and staying power to overcome all difficulties and their attendant discouragement and, eventually, return successful. That, He did for Elijah. And, will do it for you.

Now, my dear friend, if you are a child of God, cheer up, brace up and muster up the energy within you and continue in you pursuit. If it requires some new approach or skill, go ahead and adopt it. And you will see yourself at the top, eventually.

Meanwhile, come to think of it, supposing we gain the whole world and, eventually, lose our souls. That will be miserable. That is why I want to invite you to a relationship with Christ who died for your sins and is inviting you to that relationship. And, that is achieved through sincere repentance from sin and sustainable righteousness. Respond, positively, and God will bless you.
