Forget The Past and Focus on God’s Promises This New Year.

FORGET THE PAST AND FOCUS ON HIS PROMISES THIS NEW YEAR:

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:18, 19).

Success in life, reliable research has shown, is, somehow, determined by what we forget and what we focus on. Think about it, where our gaze and focus is, that is where our destination will be. Our compass, if you will, will determine the shore where our sheep will berth.

Meanwhile,there is what I call the naivety and neophytism of living in the past. My beloved, your destiny or destination is not in the past. Have you seen a man who is in a journey from point A to point B arriving at point A destination? Never. He has to arrive at the destination point B, that is if he stay the course of his journey. The same way, we have to determine to focus on our God-promised and Heaven-ordained destination, as it is promised in His word, as we take this journey of life. Our focus in a voyage will be the guide to our desired destination.

That, applicably, is what happens in this life, generally. What we forget and what we focus on will determine what will be our state, estate and status in this life. Meantime, there are about three things we need to forget and three other thing we need to focus on this new year. They are the following:

1. FORGET YOUR PAST FILTHINESS AND FOCUS ON HIS PROMISED FORGIVENESS:  Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. (Isa.1:18).

That man is spiritually and morally filthy is not a major problem to God. But, that he (the man) is not willing to come to Him for cleansing and forgiveness is what pains God. That you are living in sin is a problem, though, but, what is more problematic and perilous is that you have refused to go to God for pardon and forgiveness.

God is waiting with an open arms for those whose lives are filthy and dirty with sin and iniquity. He wants to bring them out of the slough of defilement and so cleanse them that they would become white as snow.

2. FORGET YOUR PAST FAILURES AND FOCUS ON HIS PROMISED FAITHFULNESS: God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. (1Cor.1:9).

What many people do not understand is this-failure, mistakes and blunders are the process through which we gain experience that enables us to attain success. Failures, I make bold to say, are the building blocks for success. If you are afraid of failure, you will never become a success.

Now, the Almighty God, who initiated our relationship with Himself, is challenging us to forget our past failures, no matter how terrible it may be, and focus on His promised faithfulness. Just obey Him, don’t mind the Devil who is the accuser of the brethren. Our gracious and merciful God is faithful will forgive your past and give you a clean slate for the future. Only yield to His word.

3. FORGET YOUR PAST FEARS FOR A FIRM, PERSUADED FAITH: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

(Rom.4:20, 21).

Fear is the worst enemy of man. It will rob the sinner of salvation. Rob the saint of solution to their problems through faith. Fear? It is deadly and dangerous. If there is anything to fear, apart from sin, it is not Satan, but fear itself.

That is why Abraham, the father of faith dealt a deadly blow to it in his life. He possessed and demonstrated a firm persuaded faith in life. Firm in his conviction on the promises of God. Not minding the circumstances. That is what we need this new year-forgetting and forsaking our past fears and developing a firm, persuaded and resolute faith in the promises of the Almighty God. That wins the day.

Finally,how can we focus on God when we are disinclined towards him.When we do not have any interest whatsoever in him.That is why genuine  repentance is important if we want focus on God.The question is,are you ready to turn away from sin in order to focus on God this new year? I pray that you will do that right away in Jesus name. Amen.
