Hello Brethren,

Please write me back if you get this message.. I am a 4 months new christian and I have concerns about water baptism..My entire family have been atheists all our lives and I recently got converted through a gospel tv program in my sick bed..I had a heart and kidney transplants both a failure and was seeking for second one at all cost since I can afford it but the doctors recent report on the chances means I don’t have much time left here anymore..I grew into immense compassion for the poor ever since I got converted and read pastor jakes teachings on giving and it’s spiritual and miracle benefits..since my wife and I have more than enough I thought it only fair to send donations to different charity foundations but my wife is completely against my benevolence and christianity…I have sent emails to the pastors I watch on tv but no response,I can’t help but wonder why it’s so hard to reach them directly..I have a serious issue bothering me that I been hoping I could get any minister of the gospel or good christian to help me understand knowing death is near…this is issue about water baptism, I have never been privileged to have one since I became a christian, I can’t visit a church in my condition and I fear if it has any effect on my salvation….I will be beyond grateful to hear back from you..

    Hello Brother xxxx ,

In response to your mail, as important as water baptism is, it is not what saves a person and it is not a yardstick to make heaven.

What saves a person is a new birth resulting from the genuine repentance which brings about confession and forsaking of sins(Romans 10:9-10,Ephesians 1:7) thereby becoming a new creature in Christ.(2Corinthians 5:17).

While water baptism is not necessary to go to heaven, it plays a significant role in the life of the believer. When done, it shows that you are identifying with the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When a person is immersed in water during baptism, he should see his old nature has been dead, buried and ‘resurrected’ with a completely new nature(brand new life) as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:17.

In other words, baptism is the outward sign that he is now dead to sin and alive to God. (Romans 6:11-13)

Though every believer is encouraged to be baptized in water by immersion as a reflection of dying to the old nature and resurrected in a new nature in Christ(Acts 2:37-41). Even Christ who we follow laid the example for us when He was baptised by John the Baptist.(Matt.3:13-17).

In as much as it is not a yardstick to make heaven, it should be taken as a necessity for every believer to do, to show that we are identified with His death, burial and resurrection.

Before I end, I join my faith with yours (If you believe) that by the power in the name of Jesus, you shall be completely healed of every form of heart/kidney failure and God will turn around the doctor’s report in your favour in Jesus’ name!
