‘As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, Oh God.’ Psalms 42:1 (NLT)
Studies shows that deers can perceive water some distance away even though water has no smell. Because it’s survival depends mainly on water which is not readily available in the desert, it expends all its energy just to get to the streams of water to get revived, refreshed and rejuvenated.
David knew he would have amounted to nothing without the help of God. Because he knew his survival and usefulness depends on Him; No wonder his utmost heart desire was longing for Him.
Just as the deer needed water more than the water needed it, we need God the more and the desire to always long for Him should always well up in us.
