Before Breakfast: Genesis 22:1-2
“Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith, “Abraham! “God called. ” Yes.” He replied ” Here I am.”
Take your son, your only son-Yes, Isaac, whom you love so much-and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will show you.”
Before God gave this instruction to Abraham in today’s Bible verses, He already knew Abraham to be an obedient servant.
This was a man who left his family, country home and everything to land unknown but in obedience to the words of God. It takes a man of obedience to leave certainty for uncertainty!
But here, God wanted to be sure of his level of obedience and loyalty to Him; He called him to offer his ONLY son as a burnt sacrifice for Him.
Without sharing this instruction from God to anyone(perhaps to avoid being discouraged or forbidden), he was promp in carrying it out.
Despite how unreasonable, ‘callous’ and strange this instruction seemed to be, he never argued, complained nor queried God for this kind of instruction but WHOLLY obeyed. No wonder he became very great in his time, and was blessed with many ‘seeds’ as promised by God. (Verse 17)
In our journey with God, there will be times our faith will be ‘tested’ by Him; not to cause us to fall into sin (as the devil does) but to refine us, build us and make our faith strong in Him.
To enjoy the full blessings and benefits of God, total obedience and trust in Him are paramount, not regarding if it convenient for us or not.
After all, we are the one to benefit more from our obedience to God and God has nothing to loose if we disobey but we have everything to loose.
The more we obey God, the closer we are to His heart.
