Before Breakfast: Acts 1:8
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. ”
The disciples were under the teachings of Jesus Christ during His earthly ministry where He gave them the orientations of all they needed to know about the purpose of their calling and how they ought to live, contrary to the custom and belief of the Jews at that time.
He did not only teach them but also practically showed them how to live as Christians.
Christ knew His time was short, hence needed those He would entrust the commision to , who will continue with the task of winning souls for Him. (Matt.28:19-20).
In as much as they needed to carry on with the task, Christ knew they couldn’t do this by their human power, hence the promise of the Holy Ghost by Him; according to the account of Luke in our verse for today.
No wonder the disciples got the divine power and boldness to witness Christ after the fulfilment of this promise on the day of pentecost. (Acts 2:1-4)
Unfortunately, many believers today, tend to feel they can carry out this divine task of the great commission by the number of years they have been a christian or by the reasons of the titles they bear; without duely relying on the power of the Holy Ghost.
The kingdom assignments cannot be done successfully without the power of the Holy Ghost which is inevitable for every Christian who desire to fulfil the divine mandate.
